straight As
is anyone, or does anyone know, a parent who is raising their children to be "C" students?
i swear, if one more parent tells me her/his child is "getting As and Bs, but all As would be great!", i'm going to freak out. i'm talking about 7 and 8 year olds, here. 90% of the kids i teach over the summer are over-booked and under a lot of pressure to perform. was this most people's experience growing up? i don't remember this at all.
i have kids show up for my reading development classes who have been to camp, then dance, then swim class before they see me in the late afternoon. they are cranky and almost falling asleep and i'm asking them to practice READING with me. (i may be biased, but i think the reading is more important than other activities--although i do think other activities are important.)
mothers of 9 year olds (who still have trouble sounding out some long words at that age) are complaining to me that their kids take TOO LONG to do their homework. homework is something that they apparently need to "get out of the way" to get to interpretive dance class and karate on time.
